Digital is the new normal and many organizations are struggling to keep up. A global study by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) on waves of digital transformation shows that only 28% of the “old companies” have done a good job at digitization. This means that 72% are still working on it while society already ‘demands’ new digital value propositions and high levels of service.

We believe that a human-centric approach to digital transformation is required in a world that is increasingly digital, and where the complexity/ rate of change is only increasing. This is why we have developed a Strategy To Empower People (STEP, for short) to help you realize your digital spirations.

The process of digital transformation lies in the interaction between strategy development (what do I want?) and strategy realization (how do I make it real?). We aim for sustainable results. This means that the results are lasting, and take the interests of current and future stakeholders in mind.  Achieving this requires the engagement of the organization, and tap into the potential, drive, skills and leadership of the professionals in your organization.

Through our Academy we offer a wide range of training options, both for individuals and for groups, frequently combined with coaching on the job to maximize the effect of the training. We also collaborate closely with universities in the Netherlands.

Training offering

We have a broad offering with both standard and customized training programs. Most trainings are available in-house or on our training location in Amersfoort, the Netherlands. The core topics are:

We offer both TOGAF and ArchiMate trainings, focused at the certification or preparing for architecture work in your company. We also offer a business architecture training with a focus on building the skills for successful architecture initiatives in the context of digital transformation.

        Enterprise Data Management
We also offer an Enterprise Data Management (DM) training which is inspired by DAMA DMBOK™. This training does not prepare for the CISP certificate. To support professionals further in their work, we also offer a practical data stewardship training + workshop.

        Enterprise Risk & Security
Our enterprise risk & security training bridges the gap between high-level policies on the one hand and (technical) measures on the other. This training is pragmatic in nature and helps professionals to get ready for enterprise security initiatives.

Customizing the training

Our trainings can be customized to fit your individual needs. We can, for example, add topics, combine elements from different training programs, or combine training with a hands-on workshop. Each company is different. Each setting is different. We will gladly assist you in finding a training that works well for you.

Enterprise Risk & Security Architecture training

Information Security is Crucial

What parts of your organization have to be protected against cybercrime, and which parts are less important? How do you balance security and usability? And how do you know you are secure enough?

Virtually every organization is fully dependent on IT for the execution of their core business processes. Because of this dependency, information security risks increase significantly. Cybercrime is growing fast and may lead to various information security breaches, such as: discontinuity of your business operation, leakage of information or theft of customer data. Information security risks have become real threats, that organizations cannot afford to ignore. The EU Data Protection Directive provides tough fines if data is leaked without notifications. Every organization has to have an Enterprise Risk and Security Architecture to address information security risks and to protect the privacy and information of its employees and customers.

How secure is your organization? Are you satisfied with the information security protection of your organization? These questions are quite difficult to answer, without an Enterprise Risk and Security Architecture (ERSA). An ERSA provides a framework to link the privacy and security policy to the operational security measures. It gives an overview of the interdependencies between the high-level business privacy and security requirements and the detailed, technical measures.

The course covers the 5 main aspects of Enterprise Risk & Security Architect, which gives participants a good foundation to start planning and implementing a security architecture in their own organization. The topics are:

Positioning. Relationship of the Enterprise Risk & Security Architecture to the Enterprise Architecture and to the privacy and security functions. An ERSA connects the strategic (or policy) level of the organization, with the operational (or implementation) level.

Organization. Organization of the security architecture function. An overview of the responsibilities and the mandate of the enterprise risk and security architect.

Process. The Enterprise Risk & Security Architecture Development Process. Description of the activities which are needed to develop an enterprise risk and security architecture.

Deliverables. Description of the deliverables of an ERSA. Starting from the information security policy, the business security requirements are described, and these are linked to the target technical, procedural and physical measures.

Knowledge and skills. An overview of the required knowledge and skills for the enterprise risk and security architect.

This course is aimed at conveying theory, but also practicing with the theoretical concepts to improve the skill level of participants. The effect of the training is that participants can help their organization to bridge the gap from high level security policies to a sound and effective set of security measures.

 Enterprise Data Management training

Data is everywhere

Do you find it a challenge to establish value and opportunities from your organization’s data? And are you fully in control of your data assets?

It is hard to imagine a world without data. It is literally everywhere and comes in many shapes and forms. Traditionally we see data as the structured data that is stored in core databases. But this is only part of the story. Unstructured data, NoSQL, and Big Data are getting more and more attention in both literature and practice.

Most organizations have indicated that data is one of their core assets for survival and business success. If this is indeed the case, then it only makes sense to manage data properly: strike a balance between data management offense (getting value out of your data) on the one hand, and data management defense (ensuring that the data is fit for purpose) on the other. Doing this well requires many roles and disciplines to collaborate and align their efforts. This is the realm of enterprise data management.

The DAMA DMBOK is the global reference model on data management: it structures the realm of data management in functional areas which are described from a people, process, and technology perspective. Our training follows the overall structure and approach of the DMBOK and is complemented with recent literature and our experiences from real-world projects.

Data management is a broad discipline that does not stand on its own. Throughout the course we make side-steps and discuss the relation with other enterprise disciplines such as risk and security, governance, and (enterprise) architecture.

The objective of the course is twofold. The first objective is to give an overview of the business-oriented aspects of data management and to position data management in the bigger context of building effective organizations. The second objective is to improve data management skills of participants by practicing with relevant models and approaches.

The objectives are addressed in a two-day course that mixes theory with exercises and group discussions. The training is practical and can be adjusted to the specific learning objectives of participants. Instead of “death by PowerPoint” we use a small set of posters (+ handouts), which gives us the  flexibility to adjust the program as needed.

The effect of the training is that participants have enough background knowledge, and have improved their skill to better fulfill their role in the data management realm.

Business Architecture

Success Through Collaboration

Getting to grips with complex transformation projects is far from easy.  So, how to change? How to transform your organization to a real digital leader? How to manage complexity and make sure that transformation programs run smoothly? Sure, transformation starts from the business perspective. Digital transformation is not about IT, it is about a harnessing business capabilities and using IT to extending effectiveness of the efficiency of your business operations. Business Architecture provides a thorough and effective basis for digital transformation. Trying to change your business without a sound and clear understanding of the current and future situation is like starting a losing battle.

Business Architecture is about realizing ideas. Working out the strategic directions of the organization in clear overviews, to be used on the business side for better decision-making and on the IT side for designing effective transformation programs. A disconnect between “business” and “IT” delays projects and decreases the effectiveness of change programs, which may be a source of frustration.  Business Architecture provides the big picture, maximizing the effectiveness of your business capabilities, by creating coherence and removing obstacles in operation. Business Architecture shows you how all the pieces fit together, in an effective and efficient way. Business Architecture connects to different areas of your organization, improves communication between the various capabilities and disciplines, creating designs to position capabilities and processes and checks whether the implementation is according to plan. Business Architecture provides a common sense approach for successfully executing transformation programs.

Benefits of the course

The course focusses on four essential themes that, together, form a good foundation for business architects to be successful in the work.

Connecting: Connecting strategy and operations, business and IT and the relevant disciplines involved in business transformation.

Communicating: Business Architecture provides a common basis for understanding, allowing different disciplines, projects and departments more easily work together.

Designing: Build a Foundation for Execution, which provides a common anchor point for all transformation initiatives within the program and the projects.

Checking and Feedback: Checks whether the realized solutions are in line with the strategic intent of the organization. Signaling of the discrepancies and initiate corrective action where required.

In the course we balance theory with practical work (learning by doing). The effect is that participants have a good overview of the field of business architecture, and at the same time have improved their skill in applying business architecture in practice. After following the course, participants will be equipped for engaging stakeholders across the enterprise, design effective architectures, and facilitate management decision making for effective digital transformation initiatives.
